Identity and Brand design
Moving beyond the origianl Knoll Research Library, this Knoll Research Library project recreated the brand identity into a workplace research archive welcoming everyone to access it. I chose the bookend as the central symbol to represent the essence of this space. A bookend is not just a practical object; it quietly supports, organizes, and frames knowledge. It holds everything in place, allowing individual pieces of information to be accessible, visible, and meaningful as a whole.
This metaphor captures the role of the Knoll Research Library within the Knoll ecosystem. Just as a bookend gives structure and support to books on a shelf, the research archive upholds and organizes Knoll’s deep legacy of workplace innovation, human-centered design, and forward-thinking practices. It becomes a grounding element, an anchor that ensures the company’s ideas, data, and history remain upright, engaged, and in conversation with the future.
Visually, the bookend also reflects the brand’s balance between functionality and design. It is minimal yet intentional, architectural yet understated. By using this symbol, the rebrand communicates the library's role not only as a passive repository of content, but as an active framework that both supports and shapes how we think about work, performance, sustainability, and inclusive environments.
